With our new model project “Together Locally – Mentoring and Participation for Healthcare Professionals”, we are expanding our work to support international healthcare professionals in building a life and a sense of belonging in their new communities.
In Leipzig and Riesa, we are working together with healthcare institutions, local authorities and committed partners from civil society to build a local welcome network. Our aim is to support international healthcare professionals as they settle into life in their new communities and to strengthen their prospects of staying here in the long term. We want to take shared responsibility for welcoming people who are arriving here and see them not simply as workers, but as people who should have the opportunity to build a good life and feel at home in their new surroundings.
Together with our many partners, we are developing a mentoring programme that connects international healthcare professionals and their families with local associations, initiatives and community organisations. This helps strengthen social connections and participation while also making it easier to access existing support services and resources.
International healthcare professionals are already playing a vital role in providing healthcare and nursing care in Saxony. If we want them to stay in the long term, successful professional integration needs to be accompanied by opportunities for social participation and a genuine sense of belonging. This is where we are working together with our partners. By the end of 2027, we aim to build strong communities of solidarity that welcome international healthcare professionals and their families and support them in building a life here, even in challenging times.
